Abstract:

Test anxiety causes a wide range of negative consequences including psychological distress, academic failure, and feeling of insecurity. In the same way, Perspective-Taking Training is one of the ways to have a positive effect on emotion regulation and test anxiety reduction. The present study conducted due to determine the effectiveness of ACT Matrix with compassion on emotion regulation strategy in the students with test anxiety disorders. This study was an experimental study with a pretest and posttest control group design. In the study 30 female students aged between 15 and 17 years (senior high school) situated in Ahvaz, selected by using a Multistage cluster sampling method, and the students arranged in experimental group and control group (15 persons each group) by randomization. Experimental group students received an intervention course of 16 sessions (one session per week, lasting 1 hour), and control group students without any organized intervention just watched movies and animations. Participants in both groups before intervention and after the course answered cognitive emotion regulation questionnaire. The data analyzed by using MANCOVA. The results of data analysis showed that the ACT matrix with compassion lead to the improvement of positive cognitive emotion regulation strategies in experimental group students compared with the control group students. According to our research ACT Matrix with compassion lead to the improvement of positive cognitive emotion regulation strategies in students with test anxiety.

Abstract:

Introduction: This study aimed to compare the efficacy of group psychotherapy based on acceptance and commitment by matrix method and group behavioral activation therapy on depression and quality of life in depressed university students. Materials and Methods: In this clinical trial, 45 university students with depression were selected during June and July 2018 and randomly divided in 3 groups (behavioral activation, group psychotherapy based on acceptance and commitment and the control). The experimental groups received 6 weekly sessions based on matrix acceptance and commitment and behavioral activation. All participants completed the Beck Depression Scale (BDI-II) and the WHO Quality of Life Questionnaire (WHOQOL-BREF) in three stages: pre-test, post-test, and one-month follow-up. Data were analyzed using multivariate covariance analysis. Results: The results showed that matrix acceptance and commitment therapy and behavioral activation therapy have significant impacts on reducing symptoms of depression and increased quality of life. There was no significant difference between the two experimental groups in terms of depression (P= 0. 411). The results also remained at a one-month follow-up. Conclusion: It seems that group psychotherapy based on acceptance and commitment by matrix method and group behavioral activation therapy can decrease depression and increas quality of life in depressed university students.

Abstract:

Background and Purpose: By 2020, depression will have been the second disease after cardiovascular diseases that will threaten humans’ health and life throughout the world. The study was conducted to compare the effectiveness of acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), mindfulness-based therapy (MBT), and a combination of ACT and MBT on depression. Method: The study was quasi-experimental with pretest and posttest and control group. The population was all patients with depression, average age of 14, admitted to Yasouj Counseling Centers in 2016-2017. A sample of 60 patients with depression was selected using convenient sampling method and was randomly assigned into three experimental and one control groups. The experimental groups received 8 sessions of therapy and the control group received no intervention. Beck Depression Inventory (1997) was used to collect data. Results: The results of multivariate analysis of covariance showed a significant difference in the posttest scores of depression among the four group (P<0. 05, F=26. 43, df=3). The results also showed that MBT, ACT, and combined therapy had significant effects on depression, but the combined therapy was significantly more effective than MBT and ACT (P<0. 05, df=3). However, the difference between MBT and ACT groups was not significant (P>0. 05, df=3). Hence, the effect of these methods on the subjects was similar. Conclusion: Based on the results of this study, it can be concluded that combining the MBT and ACT is more effective than using each of these methods alone.

Abstract:

Introduction: Marital conflict is an important factor in family instability, and women often suffer more from marital conflicts. Therefore, paying attention to the components that can help women cope with these challenges is necessary. Among these components are family adaptability and mental well-being, which play a crucial role in addressing the problems within their marital relationships. Aim: This study aimed to compare the effectiveness of the Paradox Time-Table Cure and the Acceptance and Commitment Therapy Matrix on family adaptability and mental well-being in women experiencing marital conflicts. Method: The study used a quasi-experimental design with pre-test, post-test, and follow-up stages. It included 45 women with marital conflicts, divided into two experimental groups (15 each) receiving Acceptance and Commitment Therapy or Paradox Time-Table Cure over ten sessions, and a control group (15) with no intervention. Assessments used the Olson (1985) Family Adaptability Questionnaire and Ryff (2002) Psychological Well-Being Scale, with data analyzed variance repeated measures and post hoc Bonferroni tests. Results: The findings showed that the Paradox Time-Table Cure and matrix of acceptance and commitment therapy were both effective on family adaptability compared to the control group. However, the efficacy of paradox therapy was higher (p=0.000). Also, the results for the mental well-being variable found only the acceptance and commitment matrix treatment to be effective and the Paradox Time-Table Cure had no effect on this component (p>0.05). Conclusion: The results showed that both methods of Paradox Time-Table Cure and matrix of acceptance and commitment therapy were effective in increasing family adaptability. But in the component of mental well-being, only the acceptance and commitment treatment matrix had a positive effect.
